Management Skills

Setting Organizational and Individual Objectives

A three-hour workshop that teaches managers at any level how to set direction. In this hands-on session managers write organizational objectives that are aligned with higher-level strategic goals. They also learn to write clear objectives for individuals using The Goal Setter writing application, part of The Managers Resource Center.

Coaching and Developing Your Staff

A three-hour workshop that teaches how to create specific development plans for individuals, and how to provide ongoing coaching to support the plan.

Participants will learn to write comprehensive development plans using The Development Planner writing application, part of The Managers Resource Center. Participants will also practice delivering the plans and providing ongoing “in-the-moment” coaching.

(Also available as a one-hour webinar. Does not include practice delivering development plans.)

Managing Performance

A three-hour workshop that teaches how to manage all levels of employees – from high performers to struggling ones. Participants learn how to give behavior-specific performance feedback, and do in-the-moment coaching. They also use The Feedback Planner application, part of The Managers Resource Center, to learn how to address performance issues.

(Also available as a one-hour webinar. Does not include practice delivering feedback.)

Onboarding Employees

A three-hour workshop that helps managers create an infrastructure within their organization for effectively onboarding any new employees. Managers learn how to create initial performance objectives and development plans, then have time to create “reusable onboarding resources” that they will use with almost any new employee.

(Also available as a one-hour webinar. Does not include time to create onboarding resources.)

Transitioning to Management

A three-hour workshop that teaches managers how to move from individual contributor to manager. The session shows participants how to manage relationships with former peers, set direction, establish a working style, and manage any initial problems. Participants use The Managers Resource Center to create a plan for continuing their transition into management.

It is highly recommended to include ongoing private coaching as they make the transition. See coaching for First-Time Managers.)

Writing Performance Evaluations

A one-hour workshop that teaches managers how to write concise, fair performance evaluations. Participants use The Evaluation Writer, an application in The Managers Resource Center, to create objective descriptions of performance.

A one-hour workshop that teaches managers methods for delivering evaluations in a confident and respectful manner.

 Presentation Skills

Fundamentals of Presentations

A ninety-minute webinar that teaches how to create an “audience-centered” presentation for internal peers or customers.

The session teaches a “questions first-slides second” method to create a presentation that produces concise, audience-relevant content.

The method significantly reduces the time it takes to create slides and practice delivery.

Optional: Participants can receive a one-hour virtual coaching session where they practice the techniques and get feedback.

Presenting to Executives

A ninety-minute webinar that shows how to prepare and deliver to the executive level.

Participants learn how to open effectively, manage a fluid agenda, answer rapid-fire questions, and facilitate the discussion process.
